Choose Friends Wisely

The company we keep has a major influence on our spiritual lives (our walk and relationship with God). Associating with Godly people will help speed us on to victory, while associating with those who are ungodly will drag us down to defeat.

That is why the Bible has some things to say about our friends. It tells us, as believers, to separate ourselves from the world because evil companions will corrupt us.

1 Corinthians 5:9 (AMP)

9I wrote you in my [previous] letter not to associate [closely and habitually] with unchaste (impure) people.

Now, I am not talking about ministry. Jesus Himself ministered to sinners. Fact is, we have to mix and mingle with them in order to spread the Gospel and pray for them. What I am referring to here are the people we choose for friends.

If we want to walk in the things of the Lord, we should not choose friends who walk in the things of the devil.

For instance, people who talk and act ungodly or who do not give God any place in their lives. They will pull us down because as we talk to and hang around with them, we will expose ourselves to temptation. We will get so familiar with sin that it will start to appear less repulsive to us and, sooner or later, we will fall into it.

In summary, we need to choose our friends wisely by doing as the Bible instructs us, which is to fellowship with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. By doing so, we are exposing ourselves to their love and peace and letting their faith rub off on us.

2 Timothy 2:22 (AMP)

22Shun youthful lusts and flee from them, and aim at and pursue righteousness (all that is virtuous and good, right living, conformity to the will of God in thought, word, and deed); [and aim at and pursue] faith, love, [and] peace (harmony and concord with others) in fellowship with all [Christians], who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart.

God Bless!
