God Is Good

Many believe since God is Sovereign then everything that happens is His will, but that is simply not the case. A more accurate statement would be that things will happen as He says they will happen. Look at the following verse.

Deuteronomy 30:19 (AMP)

19I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live.

In other words, when we choose life, we get the blessings and when we choose death, we get the curses. Even though bad things happen to many good, God-fearing Christians, their closeness and obedience to God helps them get through and overcome those challenges.

On the other hand, a lot of the bad things that happen to Godless individuals, including accidents, sickness and even weather calamities, are the direct result of them choosing death. What is more, those that choose death, or no relationship with God, have a tougher time confronting and defeating their battles.

Now the question is, how do we choose life? We first begin with the big choice that determines our final destiny, heaven or hell. We accept Jesus as our personal Savior and make Him the Lord of our lives.

However, it does not stop there because God has a plan for each of our lives, and it is a good one. Therefore, we need to follow God’s plan and His direction day by day, hour by hour and moment by moment.

That being said, how do we know if God’s plan for us is good? If we really want to see the good that God had planned for us, we just need to read the first several chapters of the Bible.

In Genesis 1 it talks about the creation and how all of it was good in God’s eyes.

When God created light, He said it was good. When He created all of the trees and herbs, He said it was good. When He created all of the birds, animals and fish, He said it was good.

When God created man, male and female, He blessed them and told them to be fruitful, to multiply, to subdue and to have dominion over the fish, the fowl and every living thing that moves on the earth.

When God saw the result of His creation, He stated it was very good.

Genesis 1:31 (AMP)

31And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it completely. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.

So, what happened? Adam disobeyed God and death entered into the earth. Even so, there is good news. God is still good, and He kicked in His plan for redemption by giving up His only begotten Son in order to provide us all with a way to eternal life.

John 3:16 (AMP)

16For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

God never stops doing good, and He continually provides a way for us to enter into His blessings. He gave the law so we would know what to do and what not to do. The choice, though, is still up to us, and it starts with our obedience.

The more we obey God, the easier it becomes to hear from Him. Reading the Bible daily, not just Sunday, and doing what it says to do is the first step. Then, as God directs us personally on a day to day basis, we will be in a better position to hear what He has to say.

After which, we need to obey what God says to do, so He can correctly guide us down the right path. As we listen and obey, God will direct us away from accidents and calamities as well as other bad things. In other words, He will lead us toward His blessings.

To summarize, the closer we get to God, the more we will see the goodness of God in our lives. Moreover, we will completely realize that God is good, just as Jesus clearly stated.

Luke 18:19 (AMP)

19Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me [essentially and perfectly morally] good? No one is [essentially and perfectly morally] good–except God only.

God Bless!
