God’s Hitching Post
A story and a lesson regarding accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior.
Back in the days when horses were the overall means of transportation, a small-town church held a revival.
During one service, a man walked forward to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior.
Everyone knew the man because he was the one who tied his horse to the local saloon’s hitching post every evening.
Word of his conversion spread like wildfire. However, people were skeptical, and truly doubting that his commitment to God was real.
So, the next time he rode into town, the people peeked through their curtains to see where the man would go.
After a stop at the general store, he got on his horse, and it headed instinctively toward the saloon.
“I knew he would go there,” someone scoffed.
However, and to the onlookers surprise, the man suddenly yanked on the reins, turned the horse around and headed home.
“Well, I believe he really has been converted,” the skeptic said. “He has changed his hitching post.”
So, what does all of this mean and have to do with us? Basically, it is a story that explains what Christian conversion is because when we become a Christian, we change our hitching posts.
Instead of being tied to sin, we are tied to Jesus Christ. Changing to God’s hitching post, Jesus Christ, makes a real and wonderful change in us.
Accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior allows us to experience a new birth, receive a new life and become a new creation.
17Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!
We can walk in the freedom Christ gave us because He changed us when we gave our lives to Him. Moreover, we have the following assurance guaranteed by Jesus whenever we are faced with worldly trials and tribulations because our hitching post is now the Cross.
33I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]
On a final note, saddle up and enjoy the ride.
God Bless!
