Keep The Weeds Out

feature photo

Jesus compared the kingdom of God with the planting of seed and reaping the harvest. It is a simple concept. One all of us understand.

Mark 4:30-32 (AMP)

30And He said, With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use to illustrate and explain it?
31It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all seeds upon the earth;
32Yet after it is sown, it grows up and becomes the greatest of all garden herbs and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air are able to make nests and dwell in its shade.

Why, then, are we not all producing bumper crops every season? It is because we are sitting around waiting for God to do all the work.

Sorry folks, but God does not operate that way. He will work with us, but He will not do it all. There are some essential things we must do by faith if we want to have a crop to reap at harvest time.

First, we must sow the seed of God’s Word in faith, expecting it to grow. We must find precious promises from God in His Word and plant them in our hearts and in our lives.

Next, we must water the seed. Water it every day with praise. Water it with the spiritual water of the Word of God. That Word contains life and those seed promises cannot grow without it.

Finally, we have to keep the weeds out. When the weeds of unforgiveness, doubt, fear, discouragement and all the other junk the devil tries to sow into our crop try to enter in, we must get rid of them because they will choke the Word.

Luke 8:11-15 (AMP)

11Now the meaning of the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God.
12Those along the traveled road are the people who have heard; then the devil comes and carries away the message out of their hearts, that they may not believe (acknowledge Me as their Savior and devote themselves to Me) and be saved [here and hereafter].
13And those upon the rock [are the people] who, when they hear [the Word], receive and welcome it with joy; but these have no root. They believe for a while, and in time of trial and temptation fall away (withdraw and stand aloof).
14And as for what fell among the thorns, these are [the people] who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked and suffocated with the anxieties and cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not ripen (come to maturity and perfection).
15But as for that [seed] in the good soil, these are [the people] who, hearing the Word, hold it fast in a just (noble, virtuous) and worthy heart, and steadily bring forth fruit with patience.

All of this is going to take some diligence on our part. No one else will do it for us. We are going to have to weed our own crop ourselves.

Therefore, we need to get tough about it. When a little weed pops up, we need to kill it and not hang on to it for even a moment. We must pull it up by its roots and spray it with the Word. We must not be tempted to keep a wildflower when we can have the best — God’s best.

In summary, we cannot sit around waiting for God to produce our harvest. Instead, we must start planting and watching over our land (our hearts and our minds) to keep it moist, watered with the Word of God and free from weeds. We must commit ourselves to doing our part and trusting God to do His. In turn, we will have a bumper crop this season and every other.

God Bless!
