Memorial Day Remembrance, Rant And Prayer
Today, Memorial Day is being observed throughout the United States. It is a day set aside to remember those members of the armed forces who gave their lives in the many wars fought to keep our nation free. I believe it is also a day to remember the men and women presently serving in the United States Military who are putting their lives on the line every day in an ongoing, never ending, under appreciated effort to protect and preserve the God given freedoms we have in this nation that so few seem to value these days.
That being said, it is more than appropriate that we take a special day to remember those who gave the greatest gift of love to mankind. Jesus spoke of such a love and sacrifice in the following passage.
13No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.
It is now time for my rant. If you prefer not to read it, please proceed down and join me in prayer this Memorial Day.
Last year I said that the most honorable way to remember our veterans on Memorial Day would be to live in harmony for the day by putting our differences, politics and political correctness aside and get back to being “One Nation Under God.” Unfortunately, I cannot say or stand behind those words this year because our elected officials have chosen not to do so themselves. I refuse to call them leaders because most of them are followers, and the same could be said for a large majority of American citizens and voters.
Sadly, we have a present administration headed by the appeaser and chief as well as politicians who seem to find great joy and contentment in continually apologizing for and degrading this great nation (a nation that has done more good for the world than all other nations combined and continues to do so). Therefore, regardless of how one looks at it, the ongoing apologies for and degradation of our nation by these individuals is also a slap in the face to our veterans and those continuing to serve in the armed forces as well as the sacrifices they have made.
What is more, our elected officials are in the midst of renaming things to add to the ongoing arsenal of political correctness in order to ensure we do not treat anyone with contempt or hurt others feelings — whether it be the leaders of other nations, dictators and even the terrorists that want to wipe us off the face of the earth. These “changes” include scrapping names for things that may offend.
For example, Janet Napolitano, our nation’s Homeland Security director, told the German newspaper Spiegel that in order to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur, she will now refer to “terrorism” as “man-caused disasters.”
Also, according to the Washington Post, a memo sent via e-mail from the Defense Department’s office of security to Pentagon staffers asks employees to substitute the terms “Long War” or “Global War on Terror” [GWOT] with the term “Overseas Contingency Operation.” Even though the Obama administration denies this, their rhetoric has paralleled this idea, having used the “Global Contingency Operation” phrase for a month prior to the e-mail being sent.
Lastly, given the previous examples, none of us should have been surprised when the name “Freedom Tower” was no longer going to be applied to the structure replacing the World Trade Center Towers and the hallowed ground that is representative of a struggle between “good” and “evil” – especially when so many of our elected officials seem to be completely convinced that we are the latter.
I guess what it all boils down to, at least according to our elected officials, is that in order to be politically correct and improve our image abroad in the eyes of other nations who do not acknowledge or have abandoned God and Christianity all together, “war” is now apparently considered an “appeasement opportunity.”
In conclusion, my overall analysis still remains the same, unless America unites and again becomes “One Nation Under God” instead of under man and/or mammon, we are in for many tough times ahead because the protective hand of God has been slowly lifting off of this nation for quite sometime. In the end, God is not going to stand for the wicked and ungodly road this nation is taking (especially turning its back to Israel), and He always has the last laugh — Always!
4He Who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord has them in derision [and in supreme contempt He mocks them].
13The Lord laughs at [the wicked], for He sees that their own day [of defeat] is coming.
8But You, O Lord, will laugh at them [in scorn]; You will hold all the nations in derision.
With my rant out of the way, I would now like to honor all who have served and are serving in the armed forces of the United States of America by praying the following prayer from the bottom of my heart with a love that can only come from the appreciation I have for these men and women and their efforts to protect and preserve the God given freedoms I have been fortunate enough to have been blessed with. Thank you all for the sacrifices you have made, and may God genuinely bless you and yours!
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for all who have served in the armed forces of this country.
We thank You for the freedom their sacrifice has earned and guarded for us. Help us to prize this freedom and use it well.
We ask You to bless all living veterans in a special way today, as well as the families of all veterans.
Comfort those who grieve for those who gave the last full measure of devotion.
Strengthen those who bear physical, emotional and spiritual wounds.
Stand with those who provide care to them.
Move us to reach out to sisters and brothers who are veterans, relatives of veterans or who currently serve in the military.
On a day when we thank You for veterans, we also pray for the day when the world will no longer need anybody to serve in the military or more veterans.
Our hope, in the words of Isaiah, is for the day when all peoples…
shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. – Isaiah 2:4 (AMP)
Give us all the creative vision to see a world which, grown weary with fighting, moves to affirming the life of every human being and so moves beyond war.
Help us to live now in anticipation of that day, as people who long for peace, pray for peace and seek to be peacemakers in this world.
We pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
