Surrender The Past To God
Happy New Year!!!
As adults, we all have a past, or baggage as some people prefer to call it, and most of us would rather not or refuse to share it with anyone.
Sometimes the things that have happened to us in the past hold us back from moving forward with God. They make us feel unworthy or hopeless, unable to look toward the future with hope and expectancy.
However, the Bible says that Jesus came to set us free from our past. His precious blood has washed away our sins, our failures, our hurts and made us brand new in His sight.
17Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!
Now, let’s put a newborn baby into the equation. Imagine taking that newborn baby and telling her that you want to talk to her about her past. To do such a thing would look and be very foolish because she does not have a past. No, she is a brand-new baby (a new creature) without a past.
That said, in Christ Jesus, we do not have a past either. We are a new creation or new person in Jesus Christ. As we surrender our past to Him, we can look forward to an exciting future in the Lord.
Today, New Year’s Day, is a great day for you to surrender your past to God, so you can step out in faith toward an exciting new future. It is by faith that we receive Christ into our hearts as Savior and Lord.
Before we surrender our past to Christ, we are a slave of sin. Christ’s truth makes us free — free from the penalty of sin. No other truth can free us so that we will never go to hell.
Do you want to know more about what it means to become a Christian? Since Christ died, your sins can be forgiven… and because He conquered death, you can have eternal life.
Becoming a Christian does not mean just going to church and being a good person. That is not what makes us a Christian. We must also obey Christ. Live the life. Follow Him, serve Him… whatever the cost — and it is costly.
In the world in which we live, if we hold on to Christian values and live up to the moral standards laid down by Christ, it will cost us. Obedience means following Christ, even to death. Are you willing to do that?
