The Battle Is God’s Through The New Covenant

feature photo

At one time or another, all of us have felt as if trouble was coming at us from all sides.

We are told that King Jehoshaphat faced this type of situation in 2 Chronicles 20 when he was besieged by three marauding armies.

The Bible says he was no match for their strength. What did he do? He called his people together and they began to pray, fast and repent of the things they had done wrong.

Then the Lord sent a prophet to speak to Jehoshaphat telling him not to be apprehensive or fear the armies and their large numbers because God was going to battle for him.

2 Chronicles 20:15 (AMP)

15He said, Hearken, all Judah, you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you King Jehoshaphat. The Lord says this to you: Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

When a battle is raging around us, this is a powerful scripture to remember. The battle is not ours, but God’s. Fact is, satan is not mad at us; he is mad at God, and the only way he can get to God is through us.

Therefore, when satan is waging war against us, it is time to stand tall and put our faith in God. By doing so, we can do what He has instructed us to do.

Moreover, we are advantageously equipped with greater strength because we are under the New Covenant through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, which assures us we can conquer anything we are confronted with.

Luke 22:20 (AMP)

20And in like manner, He (Jesus) took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament or covenant [ratified] in My blood, which is shed (poured out) for you.

Philippians 4:13 (AMP)

13I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency].

Hebrews 7:22 (AMP)

22In keeping with [the oath's greater strength and force], Jesus has become the Guarantee of a better (stronger) agreement [a more excellent and more advantageous covenant].

Hebrews 13:20-21 (AMP)

20Now may the God of peace [Who is the Author and the Giver of peace], Who brought again from among the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood [that sealed, ratified] the everlasting agreement (covenant, testament),
21Strengthen (complete, perfect) and make you what you ought to be and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will; [while He Himself] works in you and accomplishes that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ (the Messiah); to Whom be the glory forever and ever (to the ages of the ages). Amen (so be it).

In the end, Jehoshaphat allowed God to be in charge. In turn, God set ambushes against the three armies, and instead of attacking Jehoshaphat’s forces, the armies fought and killed each other until they were all destroyed.

When Jehoshaphat and his army inspected the battlefield, they gathered up the spoils of battle (cattle, goods, garments and precious things). There was so much that it took three days to gather it all, and on the fourth day they blessed the Lord and thanked Him for sparing them.

To summarize, the story of Jehoshaphat tells us that we do not have to be paralyzed with fear when we face battles because the battles are not ours — they are God’s.

God Bless!
