Think Twice Before Speaking Once
Humans possess one of the greatest individual qualities as well as valuable skills needed in building relationships. What is it? The ability to think before we speak. The Bible also instructs us regarding this.
7A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and a time to speak.
That being said, if we have a tendency to speak hastily in anger and regret our actions at leisure, the childhood admonition to count to ten before speaking will still serve us well.
Moreover, if we pause (even for a moment) to consider the consequences, we may think better of what we were about to say.
19Understand [this], my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear [a ready listener], slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry.
In summary, if we must speak strongly, it is a good idea to sugarcoat the words just in case we end up having to eat them later. Otherwise, we should never miss the opportunity to keep our mouths shut.
God Bless!
