Veterans Day Words And Prayer
Life without that of one who serves their country proud, freely and valiantly would be a life void of happiness, love, dreams and freedom(s). An existence without the very treasures so many of us call life… God, family, significant other, children, prayer, smiles, houses, cars, boats, planes, photos, books, stories — all a part of life.
That being said, to those of you wearing the uniform of your country with pride today, and for those of you who wore the uniform in days past, these few words go out to you. I hope and pray they bring God’s blessings and life in its fullness unto you and yours.
You gave of yourself, to protect and keep that life which you had learned and begun to love. You gave of your family and your life. Some came home and some never did. Some live in our memories and some in our tears, but all will forever remain in our hearts. Taken in life, both young and old, with no scorecard to determine who went and who returned. For this sacrifice we know that you have shown and given the greatest love of all.
13No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.
As the only way I have of honoring you for providing me with the life and freedoms I have here in America (one nation under God, land of the free and home of the brave), please accept these two simple words — THANK YOU!
Lastly, as with Memorial Day, I would now like to pray the following prayer from the bottom of my heart with a love that can only come from the appreciation I have for the men and women who have served and are serving in the armed forces of the United States of America and their efforts to protect and preserve the God given freedoms I was fortunate enough to have been blessed with. Thank you all for the sacrifices you have made, and may God genuinely bless you and yours!
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for all who have served in the armed forces of this country.
We thank You for the freedom their sacrifice has earned and guarded for us. Help us to prize this freedom and use it well.
We ask You to bless all living veterans in a special way today, as well as the families of all veterans.
Comfort those who grieve for those who gave the last full measure of devotion.
Strengthen those who bear physical, emotional and spiritual wounds.
Stand with those who provide care to them.
Move us to reach out to sisters and brothers who are veterans, relatives of veterans or who currently serve in the military.
On a day when we thank You for veterans, we also pray for the day when the world will no longer need anybody to serve in the military or more veterans.
Our hope, in the words of Isaiah, is for the day when all peoples…
shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. – Isaiah 2:4 (AMP)
Give us all the creative vision to see a world which, grown weary with fighting, moves to affirming the life of every human being and so moves beyond war.
Help us to live now in anticipation of that day, as people who long for peace, pray for peace and seek to be peacemakers in this world.
